WASHINGTON (AP) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials will be given access to the personal data of the nation’s 79 million Medicaid enrollees, including home addresses and ethnicities, to track down immigrants who may not be living legally in the United States, according to an agreement obtained by The Associated Press.
The Visible Identification Standards for Immigration-Based Law Enforcement Act, or VISIBLE Act of 2025, would prohibit federal immigration agents, known as “ICE,” and other Department of Homeland Security officials from concealing their identities while operating in public spaces.
Trump signed the nearly 900-page bill into law on July 4, opening the door for ICE to hire 10,000 new officers and double its capacity to detain illegal immigrants.
