Kristaps Porzingis’s return to the Celtics’ lineup isn’t imminent, but he’s continuing to progress in his rehab from offseason leg surgery. Head coach Joe Mazzulla said Porzingis has been participating in certain workouts that ramp up in intensity as he works his way back to full strength.

Porzingis reportedly is targeting a December return, though his exact timeline remains unclear and the Celtics likely will be cautious with their difference-making 7-footers. Getting him back should provide a big boost to Boston’s rim defense, which has been lacking through the first 13 games.

Coach Joe Mazzulla said Porzingis has been doing some full-court one-on-five work with assistant coaches. Point guard Jrue Holiday worked on defensive drills with Porzingis during Friday’s practice, and it provided a reminder of what Porzingis will provide when he returns.
