President Trump’s administration once promised 90 deals in 90 days. When it comes to the European Union, it may be more of a framework.
BRUSSELS (Reuters) -The European Union is working closely with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to reach a trade deal, but Brussels is getting ready for all scenarios, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.
President Trump sent tariff letters to more than 20 countries urging them to reach trade deals with the U.S. by Aug. 1, further escalating threats to partners including Canada. Trump also announced a 50% tariff on copper imports.
Trump has threatened blanket levies of 15% or 20% on most trade partners, and says he will soon announce new tariffs on the EU.
