Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt will likely need Tommy John surgery, manager Aaron Boone said on Saturday.

One day after he was placed on the injured list with forearm tightness, it was determined that New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt likely will undergo Tommy John surgery. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday afternoon that Schmidt has a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow.
