Indiana women's basketball team bounces back with impressive win over Stanford, observations from the key non-conference victory

Teri Moren had the look on her face of someone who had eaten vegetables gone bad from too much time in the refrigerator. Or someone who was expecting to blow out the candles on a birthday cake, only to discover someone else had sneaked in and done it ahead of time.

Indiana women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren sat down in a black chair at the podium nearly 20 minutes after her team defeated Brown University by 22 points. She wasn’t pleased. The Hoosiers gave up 11 3-pointers while making just five. They had 18 turnovers and relinquished 39 points in the second half after giving up just 21 in the first.

In last season’s matchup, the Cardinal beat the Hoosiers 96-64 and handed Indiana its first loss of the season. Stanford attacked Indiana in the post and from 3-point range as forwards Cameron Brink and Kiki Iriafen each recorded a double-double –– Brink with 20 points and 17 rebounds and Iriafen with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

After Harvard scored on its opening possession of overtime, Parrish had a rare opportunity to inbound the ball without anyone guarding the baseline. She tossed it to Moore-McNeil only for the ball to bounce off her fingertips and go out of bounds without a defender pressuring her.

Indiana shot 34% from the field and committed 16 turnovers Wednesday against Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse, leading to a 56-46 loss with rare offensive numbers under coach Teri Moren.
